Structure of welding positioner

Welding positioner is a position changing machine that can turn the weldment and turn it over so that the weld seam on the weldment is always in the easy welding position. Reasonable use of welding positioners can improve welding efficiency, improve welding quality, and reduce the labor intensity of welders. At the same time, it is also one of the important process equipment indispensable to realize the mechanization and automation of the welding process. Used in conjunction with a welding manipulator, it can solve the problem of automatic welding of complex-shaped weldments. At present, welding positioners have been widely used in manufacturing industries such as construction machinery, heavy machinery, vehicles, boilers, pressure vessels, and pipelines.

The structure of the welding positioner can be divided into the outrigger type, seat type, double seat type, and L-shaped double rotary type.

(1) Outrigger welding positioner. The structural shape of the outrigger welding positioner is composed of main components such as a rotary table, outrigger, tilting shaft, rotating shaft, and base. The rotary table is driven by a motor to rotate at a constant speed and is installed at the end of the outrigger. The extension arm and the rotary table can be tilted at a certain angle through the tilt axis. The rotation axis can rotate the table around the longitudinal axis of the extension arm. This type of positioner is characterized by a large range of position change, flexible operation, and strong process adaptability. Disadvantages are poor structural stability and small bearing capacity, generally below 600kg, suitable for turning and displacement of small weldments. They have mostly used for electrode arc welding and melting electrode gas shielded welding.

If the outrigger welding positioner adopts hydraulic drive, its maximum load capacity can be increased to about 10T.

(2) Seat welding positioner. The seat type positioner is the most widely used form of the positioner. It is mainly composed of a rotary table, tilting mechanism, motor drive system, and machine base. The weldment is placed on the worktable and pressed by the matching fixture to ensure that the weldment does not loosen when the rotary worktable is tilted. The rotary table can be driven by DC or AC motors and can be step-less adjusted in a wide range through the speed control system to meet the needs of various welding processes. The turning or tilting of the rotary table is through the sector gear, driven by the motor or directly lifted or pulled back by the hydraulic cylinder. The maximum tilt angle is generally in the range of 110°-135° and tilted at a constant speed. The weldment can be tilted and locked at any angle.

The characteristics of this welding positioner are compact structure, good stability, large carrying capacity (up to 400t), easy to move, and flexible operation. It can be designed as a lifting type to further expand the working range and applicability of the seat welding positioner. The lifting mechanism can use a motor to drive the column guide rail and the clamping roller and adopt the screw guide rail structure. To improve the stability and safety of the welding positioner's operation, the lifting and tilting mechanism of the seat type welding positioner can be hydraulically driven, and its structure is more compact.

The disadvantage of the seat-type welding positioner is that there are certain restrictions on the length of the weldment. The center-of-gravity distance cannot exceed the specified range. When a welding positioner must be used to weld a long-length weldment, the simplest solution is to use a combination of driven roller frames.
